Well I am back a bit and off from a week with 2 large funerals complete with evening prayer services and all the stuff that goes along with death. Went well until Monday when a very good friend called and his mother just died. I am beginning to think that I may be good at death, or at least called to be in the midst of it.
All that aside I move to number 2. I am good at communication so take that and add a great accomplishment --- I found a wife who will be with me through thick and thin. I am sure there is more thin (other than my figure) than thick but we are together through it all.
I also passed the exam to sell life and health insurance (long time ago). I got pictures published, I had my own farm, (learned about being broke), graduated a son and daughter from High School, I passed the exam to be a pastor from the Lay Pastor Institute @ Sterling College, served three churches (together) part time then became their fulltime pastor.
Probably I put the insurance exam, got pictures published in one catagory and the pastor work and commisssionint in another. The first two were temporary and the others seem to be life work.
I believe the same qualities are required for all. I am tenacious, hard working, committed, and would add passionate about what I do no matter what it is.
Along with the personal mission statement I am reading "Walking in Your Own Shoes" by Robert A. Schuller. Both of these seem to move in the same direction with aobut the same steps.
So far I have that I am a good communicator who is committed, passionate, and tenacious in my work.
Where are the rest of you at?????

Personal Mission Statement #2
So I have the first question with some sort of an answer. I think I am good at communication. I rationalize this by puttting together the things I do best. I am a good speaker, teacher, I can help people with encouragement, working through their problems. If I can do all those things it is like my gift is communication.
So with that I need to tell all that this outline comes from the book, "Recovering the Sacred Center" by Howard E. Friend Jr.. It was sent to me by my Executive Presbyter Bob Houser.
The next question #2 is, "Remember times of accomplishment in your life, of achievement or success. In these times of accomplishment, what skills, abilities, traits, or personal qualities were called forth?"
Now I find the same issues trying to recognize a time of accomplishment. What have I accomplished in life? Is there a real thing, a real time I was successful at something?
Well off on another search. How are all of you doing with your mission statement??? Any help, suggestions or questions???
Lets keep this thing going. Pastor WaynO

Personal Mission Statement
Okay, I said Iwould be back after the first of the year and here I am. I had a great holiday season and am looking forward to a year full of the great stuff churches are made of. As I begin to assess last year and then look forward to next year it is with a new search. I have made mention of the personal mission statement so want to take some time and maybe get some help from all of you as I work through the questions.
I am as usual stuck -- it is with the first question which is also usual. This one asks me something I have had diffuculty with all my life. "What am I good at?"
There is a multitude of answers that come to my mind as I question myself. I do lots of things and get comments about them. Some are good and some are not so good but how do I sort all this out.
Really my problem is that when I say I am good at something is that an arrogant thing??? Because I think I am good at something am I missing the point?? Am I really good at something but maybe don't like to do that so I say I am not good at it??
God calls us to his plan not ours so I am left with a great deal of questions and very few anwers. I hope some will post so I get help with this and maybe we can journey together, seeking to find each of our own mission statement.
