Well I supose this is good news. No one responded to my poem so it must not have offended anyone, however no one said it was good either. I still wonder about preaching. What is the purpose of the pastor in the church?????
I seem to do a lot of visiting and a little teaching and a little preaching. If what I read in the emerging stuff is true this is what they all want. If that is true then what is the problem with organized reliegion?
On the other side is this email running around about the movie "The Golden Compass" and after having visited the Desperate Preacher and that discussion I wonder if what we are doing is good or bad. Good in the caution is out there but bad because of the publicity and curiosity generated. Then I wonder after hearing the SRN News report yesterday about video games being purchased how many of those circulating this email will take their children to the movie anyway.
When I put the two thoughts together I come up with this: The church says to do this and don't do that. Live your life in this manner and leave these things alone. After the members leave the church, and some pastors too, you would never know they were at the service to begin with. It might be an issue of Christian speak versus Christian living?????
Any thoughts out there???

Surprise, it's me. I did like your poem. In response to the "Golden compass".We did discuss this somewhat.I think we do need to be made aware of this type of thing, but not, make a major issue of it. After all, the only thing we can do is plant seeds, do a little cultivating, and let God do the rest. Sometimes I think we are preaching to the choir.I think I said this the other day. So, many people don't think they have a need for God, because they are too comfortable with their lives. Now, I will admit I have only read a little on the emerging church. But, to some degree what I am hearing is that "whatever I believe, or want to do is ok". What I have to ask is, who or what is behind this new church? Is it God, or the enemy pretending to be God. I truly feel that the Bible needs to be taught, if it is God's word and we believe it is God's word, then those of us who believe in that Word(God's word) need to stand our ground on our convictions.an expample: my daughter is living with someone outside of marriage, I do not condone what she is doing, she knows how I feel, but I am still showing her love and compassion. I believe we need to take a stand on what we truly believe whether other people will be offended or not.Jesus took a stand in the Temple when he ran off the money changers.(I hope this makes sense). Society(satan, the enemy or whatever you want ot call him) has influenced the church so much.He is such a subtle sneak, he takes us a word or inch at a time until we are no longer bothered, by what is going on in the world. Another example: when I was a teenager back in the ice age, if you were an unwed mother you disgraced yourself and your family. And now it so accepted. It's no big deal. I think it is a big deal or should be. I do not believe babies are a mistake, they are a gift from God, but I do believe that the circumstances are mistakes. It used to be too that if you got in trouble at school or were disrespectful to any adult you were in big trouble at home, but now if you get in trouble at school , or are disrespectful, the parents go up to school or the adult in question and it's them that get in trouble not the kid.And this happens with some parents that proclaim they are Christens.
Do I make any sense?

I believe that God uses all things to his plan and purposes.Look at the stories of Tamar, Rebekah, even Joseph(not Mary's husband),had they waited for God's timing would their lives have had more blessings or their lives been a little easier.I think God takes our bad choices and turns them around for his good. But,I wonder if we do it God's way, will we have more peace and better blessings.Sometimes I think God puts ideas in our heads and on our hearts and before He has a chance to explain what he wants from us we run amuck with the idea. I talk with people everyday that swear they are Christians, but don't want to hear the hard stuff. So, the church has watered down the word of God.When we look at what has happened to this country, in the last 3 decades. What once was immoral is now acceptable. We are getting so de-sensitized,that nothing surprises us anymore.
We have become too complacent, and will we have to answer for that complacency? Organized religion I think has become all about money, it is business, it's not about faith anymore.
If there was a rapture(if you believe in that)today, I think a lot of people would be surprised to find themselves still on earth.
And maybe the emerging church(or some of them)want to get back to the basics of what Christ taught. I just know that I am trying to be the person that God wants me to be. And some days I don't think I am going to make it.

Deb, I popped over here to add some thoughts I had over the last few days and was amazed to see you posted some of them.
I get so frustrated with those who call themselves Christians and you would never know it by the life they live. Not only do they live a strange and unrestrained life outside the church they condemn the church when it requests something from them.
There is an elder on one of the sessions I moderate who first said we needed no more than 15 minutes of Bible study or reflection to start the meeting and when I called him on the fact he was not participating in the leadership got very upset. Then when the members of the session were called on to visit members he immedeately said he was to busy.
The church is in dire straits in more ways than one. go figure
